The Chemistry and Ocean Sciences Researchers will perform research that will assist in the development of our company. These projects are recommended for students in chemistry, green chemistry, chemical engineering, earth & ocean sciences and/or any other relevant faculties. Students who are interested in Project Scope 1 should have a strong understanding of organic chemistry.
Project #1: Plastic Leaching and Alternative Solutions
- Literature review on the effects of plastic bottles leaching into hand sanitizer.
- Literature review on the effects of plastic leaching into the ocean.
- Recommend alternative solutions to plastic containers.
- Write blog posts on your findings.
Project Scope #2: Research and recommend an optimal hand sanitizer formulation.
- Literature review on the toxicity of common alcohols found in hand sanitizer (i.e. ethanol, propanol, etc.)
- Conduct research on different gel hand sanitizer formulations that are on the market today.
- Write a short report recommending a safe gel hand sanitizer formulation.
Project Scope #3: Effects of Plastic on our Earth & Oceans
- Literature review on the effects plastic has on marine life.
- Literature review on plastic waste generation (i.e. how much is recycled, ratio of where the rest ends up, biodegradability, etc.)
- Write blog posts on your findings.
The deliverables of all three projects are in the form of short blog posts or reports. Blog posts will be posted on our website and social media accounts. This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work. We will include the student's name as the author when posting unless the student would prefer to stay anonymous.
We can offer mentorship on an ongoing basis throughout the program and answer questions as needed by the students.
