The Chemistry Research Co-op Student will perform research that will assist in the development of our company. Students should have a strong understanding of organic chemistry and a passion for eliminating plastic waste. The following are a few projects the students will be working on throughout the co-op term:
Project #1: Plastic Leaching and Alternative Solutions
- Literature review on the effects of plastic bottles leaching into hand sanitizer.
- Literature review on the effects of plastic leaching into the ocean.
- Recommend alternative solutions to plastic containers.
- Write blog posts on your findings to be posted on our website and social media pages.
Project Scope #2: Research and recommend an optimal hand sanitizer formulation.
- Literature review on the toxicity of common alcohols found in hand sanitizer (i.e. ethanol, propanol, etc.)
- Conduct research on different gel hand sanitizer formulations that are on the market today.
- Write a report recommending a safe gel hand sanitizer formulation.
- Assist in phases of product development from the formulation stage to the market-ready stage (i.e. assist in grant applications, government certification applications, etc.)
Project Scope #3: Effects of Plastic on our Earth & Oceans
- Literature review on the effects plastic has on marine life.
- Literature review on plastic waste generation (i.e. how much is recycled, ratio of where the rest ends up, biodegradability, etc.)
- Write blog posts on your findings to be posted on our website and social media pages.
These are only a few projects students will have the opportunity to work on. We strive on collaboration and are open to other suggestions the students may have for other relevant research topics.
We can provide a high level of mentorship and support throughout the semester.
