The Chemistry Research Co-op Student will perform research that will assist in the development of our company. Students should have a strong understanding of organic chemistry and a passion for eliminating plastic waste. The following are a few projects the students will be working on throughout the co-op term:

Project #1: Plastic Leaching and Alternative Solutions

  • Literature review on the effects of plastic bottles leaching into hand sanitizer.
  • Literature review on the effects of plastic leaching into the ocean.
  • Recommend alternative solutions to plastic containers.
  • Write blog posts on your findings to be posted on our website and social media pages.

Project Scope #2: Research and recommend an optimal hand sanitizer formulation.

  • Literature review on the toxicity of common alcohols found in hand sanitizer (i.e. ethanol, propanol, etc.)
  • Conduct research on different gel hand sanitizer formulations that are on the market today.
  • Write a report recommending a safe gel hand sanitizer formulation.
  • Assist in phases of product development from the formulation stage to the market-ready stage (i.e. assist in grant applications, government certification applications, etc.)

Project Scope #3: Effects of Plastic on our Earth & Oceans

  • Literature review on the effects plastic has on marine life.
  • Literature review on plastic waste generation (i.e. how much is recycled, ratio of where the rest ends up, biodegradability, etc.)
  • Write blog posts on your findings to be posted on our website and social media pages.

These are only a few projects students will have the opportunity to work on. We strive on collaboration and are open to other suggestions the students may have for other relevant research topics.
